More people then ever are connecting to online poker sites to play card games against other poker enthusiasts from all over the world. And with this increase in players, online poker sites seem to be setting up bigger and bigger poker tournaments. Online poker sites often use their “flagship” tournaments in marketing drives to lure in players, and it often helps! Take PokerStars for example, they are renowned amongst online poker players as the first internet poker site to run a weekly tournament that guaranteed a million dollar prize pool. Since then PokerStars has grown considerably and has now increased this prize pool to a guaranteed one and a half million dollars.

Poker players will notice that many of the sites “flagship” tournaments take place on a Sunday afternoon. The US friendly poker sites such as PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Cake Poker, start these tournaments at a US friendly time, which often makes the tournaments start very late for European players.

Poker sites not accepting US players such as Titan Poker, PKR Poker and Party Poker schedule the tournament start times around European poker players, as European players are the players they’re trying to attract.

PokerStars Sunday Million

The largest weekly poker tournament, the PokerStars Sunday Million, starts at 9:30PM GMT every Sunday. With a $215 entry fee, it may be a little pricey for most players, but PokerStars offers hundreds of daily satellites to this event which include rebuy tournaments, double shoot outs, triple shoot outs and many other formats. So with a little searching around you should be able to find a cheap satellite offering seats at this prestigious online poker event!

As well as multi table satellites pokerstars also offers sit and go satellites which attract hundreds of players with their eyes set on the elusive Sunday Million seat. The cost of entering these sit and go satellites range in size from $2.20 up through to $70. You can even use your FPP’s (Frequent Player Points) to play in a sit and go satellite. PokerStars offers a number of formats for these sit and go’s including turbo, shoot out and the standard PokerStars sit and go tournament format.

Titan Poker $250,000 Weekly

European poker players looking to participate in a big weekly poker tournament should look no further than Titan Poker. This tournament kicks of at 6:00PM GMT every Sunday, which is ideal for players from the UK and other European countries. With a buyin of $320 you’ll have to have deep pockets or a big bankroll to part with the cash, although there are plenty of satellites running daily.

Titan Poker runs a 6 man sit and go tournament which costs $70 to register for, from here the winner takes away a seat at the $250,000 event and second place wins back their $70 buy-in. This satellite tournament is set up incorporating a quick format, seven minute blinds and fifteen hundred starting chips. Titan Poker also offers numerous other satellites; turbo, rebuy and the standard tournament structure are all offered through the Titan Poker client.

Pokerstars Sunday Million

Yesterday, the popular $1.5 million guaranteed Pokerstars Sunday Million tournament was won by govshark2. For his win, govshark2 earned $184,500 and second place finisher princio made $124,950. The aggressive style of govshark2 proved to be too much for his competitors to overcome, but the final players gave him a good battle.

There was no discussion about a chop, and all players took their predetermined share of the prize pool. Here are the complete final table results and payouts:

1st: govshark2 ($184,500)
2nd: princio ($124,950)
3rd: trangers15 ($84,000)
4th: Br0ke24/7 ($69,000)
5th: DeuceBuster ($54,000)
6th: BOKINHA ($39,000)
7th: Y2JKID ($26,250)
8th: MyGambit ($17,250)
9th: Jazz604 ($10,500)

Govshark2 had a big chip lead going into heads-up play. With $59.6 million in chips versus $13.4 million for princio, it figured that princio would be looking for spots to get his money in and a chance to double his stack. Blinds were $300,000/$600,000, which meant that princio had only 22 times the big blind. After winning several smaller pots, princio built his stack to over $20 million before the two competitors got it all in preflop with the following hands: princio - K, 10. govshark2 - A, K. The flop came K, Q, 5♠, making govshark2 an 82% favorite to win the hand. The turn card was the 6, leaving princio with the 3 remaining 10’s in the deck as his only outs. The river brought the 4♠, and it was all over.

Poker Bonus Comparisons

As a new online poker player, getting a signup bonus when you join a poker room is one of the most crucial incentives that you can use to boost your starting bankroll. While there are a vast number of bonuses available, knowing how to properly maximize bonuses and make the most of a deposit, is something that new players often overlook. In this article, we are going to look at some of the most popular forms of poker bonuses. I’ll also tell you how each type of bonus should be used to effectively increase your bankroll, thus improving your chances of success at the tables.

Match Bonuses
Poker match bonuses are the most common form of bonus offered by poker sites. Simply put, the poker room will match your initial deposit on a percentage basis up to a maximum dollar amount. For example, a 100% up to $600 match bonus would mean that on your first deposit you would receive a maximum of $600 additional dollars in bonus money. This is a very appealing option for new players.

However, all sites have bonus requirements that must be satisfied in order to release your bonus into your real money account. This is done by participating in ring games and tournaments that earn you points towards unlocking your bonus. It’s important for you to always research each site’s bonus requirements in advance. This way, you ensure that the bonus can be cleared in a reasonable amount of time.

The rate at which you clear a bonus depends on the limits and number of tables you play. Playing higher limits and multiple tables will help you clear poker bonuses much faster. In general, no bonus should take you over 3 months to clear if you’re playing a couple of hours a day.

By finding a fair match bonus with fair requirements, you give yourself a chance to add some additional chips to your stack for free. Overall match bonuses, when maximized properly, represent a great incentive and advantage for poker players looking to join a new site.

Free No Deposit Bonuses

Free poker bonuses are much less publicized options that are offered by some poker rooms to attract new players to their sites. While these bonuses are very appealing at first glance, in reality they usually have so many stipulations that they are not worth the hassle. However, this is not the case with every site.

As previously mentioned, reading the terms and conditions in advance will save you a lot of trouble in the end. Usually free bonuses require you to get a certain number of points (or raked hands) and make a real money deposit, before cashing out. For this reason, I suggest that you only use no deposit poker bonuses to try a site, rather than aiming to profit from them.

VIP Program Bonuses

The last major type of incentive (and probably the best) that online poker sites offer are VIP program bonuses. Whereby you are rewarded with VIP points for playing at a poker site. This is probably the most flexible and beneficial type of bonus that you’ll find. VIP programs allow you to earn a number of rewards over time as you build your point base at the site.

Large poker rooms such as PokerStars, offer some of the most comprehensive rewards programs available. A few benefits of the PokerStars VIP program include, free tournament entries, poker books, poker apparel, Ipods, and even tournaments with pro poker players. Overall, finding a poker room with a good VIP program is the best way to ensure that you are consistently rewarded for your loyal and frequent play.

Conclusion
Hopefully you now have a better understanding of how poker bonus offers are issued, and how you can leverage them to increase your bankroll. As mentioned throughout this article, it is essential that you check bonus requirements before you deposit to ensure that you can clear the bonus in a reasonable amount of time. With a little bit of research and decision making, any poker player can find a great bonus for themselves that offers fair terms and a great reward for joining a site.
