Cake Poker Summary
Cake Poker is the flagship poker room on the Cake Network. With over 35 poker rooms on the network, traffic at Cake Poker continues to rise. Peak hours show over 2,500 players in cash games, and over 7,500 players sitewide.
Tournaments are the main focus at Cake Poker, with a variety of fun tournaments to try. There is over $5 million per month in guaranteed tournaments available, including a $100,000 guaranteed tournament every Sunday, and a monthly $250,000 guaranteed tournament as well.
The Cake Poker bonus is big, at 110% up to $600. Mid-stakes cash game players should look to build their bankroll by going after this one. New players who typically lose when they’re first learning the game can replenish any losses by earning this big bonus.
The graphics are really nice when the table is set at the default size or smaller. The default size is fine, but if you like to use full screen sized tables, the player avatars (actual pictures of real people) get blurry.
Cake Poker is one of the fishiest poker sites online. The Cake network draws a lot of players from their casinos and sportsbooks, and these people like to gamble. So, the quality of play is lower than most rooms, giving good players a chance to make more money than at most other sites.
The software is typically very good, but can be a little buggy at times. Sound effects are okay, but when chips go into the pot or get distributed to the winner, they sound more like a pile of coins moving than clay chips – we’d like for this to be improved.
Cake Poker Bonus
The bonus at Cake Poker just got bigger. We can now offer our players a whopping 110% bonus up to $600 by using bonus code RSS600. Be sure to write that down, then enter it into the appropriate field when you make your initial deposit. This bonus is only good for your first deposit, so use it wisely. When you make your first deposit, deposit as much as you can comfortably afford. We don’t want anyone to deposit more than they can afford to lose, but we also don’t want players to miss out on bonus money if they can afford a larger initial deposit. If you deposit $50, you can only get a $55 bonus. If you deposit $546 or more, you can get the entire $600 bonus.
The Cake Poker bonus is paid in $10 increments, which is great. Instead of being paid in one lump sum like a lot of rooms do, players at Cake Poker earn their bonus as they go. Not only does this help new players from going broke, but it also guarantees that you’ll actually get whatever you earn. A lot of poker rooms that pay in one lump sum don’t pay out the bonus unless the entire bonus clearing requirements are met. So, if you were going after a $600 bonus but only cleared $500 worth by the deadline, you wouldn’t actually get paid any of your bonus. At Cake Poker however, you get paid whatever you earn, so this is another big plus.
Players have 90 days to clear as much bonus as they can, plenty of time for most players to clear a big chunk of it.
Players earn their bonus by earning Frequent Player Points (FPP’s). The system Cake Poker uses is identical to that of Full Tilt Poker. Every FPP is worth 6 cents towards your bonus. Players earn 1 FPP for every dollar collected in rake at tables where they are dealt a hand. In tournaments, players earn 7 FPP’s per dollar in tournament fees, which is a $.42 return per dollar in fees.
Cake Poker Rewards Program
Players at Cake Poker earn Gold Chips and Gold Cards as they play. FPP’s automatically turn into Gold Chips as you play, and Gold Chips can be used for tournament entries and in the Cake Shop to buy various poker swag, iPods, LCD TV’s, poker tables, and all sorts of other stuff. The more you play each month, the easier it is to earn Gold Chips. After you earn one Gold Chip, it requires fewer FPP’s to earn the next one. For example, it takes 120 FPP’s to earn your first Gold Chip each month, but only 70 FPP’s to earn your fifth.
Gold Cards are earned by playing at any cash game at Cake Poker. The higher the stakes you play, the more often you’ll earn Gold Cards. Gold Cards are like collecting baseball cards, coins, or stamps. Some are worth more than other, depending on various factors. What’s interesting about Gold Cards is that some of them also raise in value over time. So, while you might want to cash in certain Gold Cards quickly, other cards are worth holding onto longer. For more information in Gold Cards and how to use them, go to Cake Poker.
Cake Poker Tournaments
As I mentioned above, Cake poker is focused heavily on their tournaments. They offer all of the standard tournaments, plus a lot of freerolls and guaranteed tournaments every day.
The Sunday $100,000 guaranteed tournament has a direct buy-in of $150+12, and begins at 5 PM ET. Freerolls run every day for this tournament, or satellites can be played for as little as $2.20 or 5 Gold Chips.
The monthly $250,000 guaranteed replaces the $100,000 guaranteed on the last Sunday of every month. It has a direct buy-in of $250+18, and satellite tournaments can be played for as little as $3.30. The top prize for this tournament is usually around $60,000 and everyone who makes the final table will make $4,000 or more.
Sit-n-go tournaments start at $1.05 and go up to $1000+40 for full 10 player tables, $1800+75 for 6 player tables, and $5000+100 for heads-up tournaments. Players can also play in Gold Chip sit-n-go tournaments and accumulate more Gold Chips.
New depositing players can play in our $500 New Depositor Freeroll by using Cake Poker bonus code RSS600. All you have to do is signup at Cake Poker and deposit a minimum of $50. There are also a lot of freerolls for a variety of guaranteed tournaments that are held on the site, including the monthly $250,000 guaranteed tournament.
Cake Poker Cash Games
The cash games are pretty loose at Cake Poker. With a lot of new players signing up on this network, the cash games are pretty juicy. I recently turned a $120 buy-in at a $2/4 FL Holdem game into well over $400 in exactly 3 hours. While I admit the deck hit me pretty well, a lot of that cash came from players who should’ve folded way before they did. If I’d been playing at Full Tilt or Pokerstars with the exact same hands being distributed amongst my competitors, I expect that my profits would’ve been about half of what they were.
Since people play loose and draw out so much at Cake Poker, the key is to hit big flops and huge draws, then bet & raise like a madman. Play your top pair hands more carefully as you will have a lot of opponents drawing to straights, flushes, and various other hands that can beat you. When you have big hands, let your opponents pay for their mistakes and don’t worry about scaring them away. While you will scare people away at times, more often than not you’ll get called by much weaker hands that you dominate.
The traffic in the cash games continues to improve at Cake Poker. This is now a viable room for players who prefer cash games. With over 2,500 real money cash game players during peak hours, there are always good games available. Mid to high stakes cash games are getting much busier as well, and finding a juicy FL Holdem game up to about $20/40 is usually possible. In NL Holdem games, most hours of the day will provide good action up to about $5/10 where most players will have between $300-2,000 in front of them.
In Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo games, there isn’t a ton of traffic, but enough to keep the micro-low stakes players happy. The biggest games that can be found 24 hours a day will be $2/4 and sometimes $5/10. During peak hours there are always $5/10 games going, and occasionally higher.
